Sunrise at Machu Picchu Tour

With this Machu Picchu tour package, you will spend the night in Aguas Calientes (also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo) in the shadow of the great citadel. You will be able to rise early and hike to the summit of either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountian or the Gate of the Sun (Intipuncu). If you are fortunate, and the weather cooperates, you will witness a spectacular sunrise as the morning breaks over the mystical cloud forest.

Itinerary

Day 1: Train to Aguas Calientes

You will travel by bus to the train station. The train will take you through the mystical Urubamba Valley to your destination, Aguas Calientes. Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo, lies at the base of the citadel of Machu Picchu.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will be greeted, accompanied to your hotel and briefed by your guide. Afterwards, you will have the afternoon and evening free to enjoy one of the many restaurants in Aguas Calientes. And if you are adventurous and have your swimsuit, you will have time to visit the namesake thermal hot springs.

Day 2: Machu Picchu

After and early breakfast in your hotel, you will make your way to the bus that will carry you for your last leg of the journey to Machu Picchu. Your guide will take you on a walking tour of the citadel beginning with the terraced agricultural area. From there you will enter the living and working areas and marvel at the legendary stone work. Your local guide will explain the functional history of the site and share the legends surrounding the Incan beliefs and their deep reverence for the mother earth.

After the tour you will have the option of enjoying a buffet lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge in Machu Picchu or the Hatuchay Hotel in Aguas Calientes before boarding the train back to Cusco. Upon your arrival by train you will be transferred to your hotel in Cusco to rest and reflect upon one of the most amazing days of your life.
