Amazon Posada Lodge
The Posada Lodge in the Tambopata reserve is the perfect short-stay Amazon experience. The lodge provides convenience proximity with comfort, only 45 minutes upriver from Puerto Maldonado. All of the lodge’s spacious rooms have comfortable mattresses, mosquito nets, hot water and private bathrooms. You will enjoy all of the amenities, yet you are within one of the most pristine Amazon reserves in the world.
All of the rooms have one open wall exposed to the jungle where it is not uncommon to see various varieties of monkeys and parrots right from your room. The organised outings include walking excursions to explore the flora and fauna of the surrounding jungle. You will have the opportunity spot parrots and macaws as they descend upon the riverside clay licks. You will tour an oxbow lake in a catamaran alongside endangered river otters and the black caiman. You will visit a local farming or medicinal community to experience the local lifestyles coexistence between man and the rainforest ecosystem.
Day 1: Arrival Posada Lodge
We will be there to greet you at the Puerto Maldonado airport before making the 10-minute drive to our Amazon headquarters where you will be briefed and given the opportunity to store your heavy trip luggage. Because of the size and capacity of the river boats, we ask that you only carry the minimum necessary in a duffle bag or backpack.
Next you will be transferred by bus approximately 45 minutes to the departure dock where you will board the river boat for the 45-minute ride up the Tambopata River to the Posada Lodge. The dock resides within the Native Community of Infierno who have a revenue sharing agreement with the lodge and whose people provide most of the services for the lodge’s operations.
During the short trip you will be treated to a box lunch where you will get your first taste of the wonderful jungle flavors. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the lodge staff and offered a welcome fruit beverage and a wet towel.
After a brief review of schedules and procedures, you will be given a chance to rest before heading out for your first jungle hike. On this hike, you will see the hundreds of varieties of plants, trees and insects. And with a little luck you may even see a monkey or parrot. You will climb a 100 foot scaffold tower that provides a panoramic view of the entire Tambopata River basin. If the time is right, you will be able to witness a spectacular Amazon sunset.

Day 2: Posada Lodge
An early morning start to the first full day of your jungle adventure. You will awake early in order to take a boat upriver and then hike almost one hour into the interior of the jungle to a remote oxbow lake. Your guide will explain how the oxbow lakes originate as you begin a catamaran tour of the far shores. During this tour, you will view the endangered river otters that live and play in the waters. With a little luck, you will be able to spot a black caiman circling around but unable to approach the otters.
After returning to the lodge, you will hike about 10 minutes down river to the blind where you can view the nearby riverside clay licks in the anticipation of spotting parrots, toucans or macaws. They come to consume the clay to counteract toxins in their natural diet.
After the buffet lunch, you will have time to rest. Later, will head downstream to visit one of the local communities where you will have a chance to see up close life in the rainforest and participate in local customs and traditions.
Optionally in the evening your guide will lead you on an after dark excursion into the jungle to experience the lights and sounds of the Amazon.
